Abstract

Il mondo del gaming viene spesso presentato come una distrazione innocua, che suggerisce un luogo sicuro dove gli utenti giocano e trascorrono il proprio tempo. Come risultato di questa narrazione, il potenziale comunicativo di questo ambiente deve ancora essere esplorato ampiamente. Discord, un'applicazione creata per il gaming e molto utilizzata dalle comunità di giocatori per facilitare le comunicazioni, è un eccellente vettore per connettere utenti di tutto il mondo. Questo articolo sostiene che Discord, oltre ai suoi usi di intrattenimento, può essere sfruttato per commettere crimini e perpetrare attività illegali. Per illustrare ciò, è stato utilizzato un approccio netnografico per rilevare e analizzare le interazioni sociali all'interno di Discord. I risultati di questa ricerca illustrano come Discord può essere sfruttato in vari modi per commettere un’ampia gamma di crimini in modo sicuro, senza essere scoperti, e come la netnografia si sia rivelata uno strumento efficace per individuarli.
